Vietnam ? Why ?

10th June 2006 Ljubljana Slovenia.

I was well into the second part of my European bike ride when I stopped in Ljubljana to watch Englands unconvincing 1-0 win over Paraquay in their first world cup match.
Sitting in a bar after the game I met a couple from Scotland who were also traveling and we got to talk about favourite destinations.
Without a second thought they said the best place they loved the most was Vietnam. The evening passed with several drinks and laughs but the seed was sown. They told me so many great stories about "the Nam" that I knew one day I would have to go.

My European bike ride

Paul McCann

Fast forward to 3rd October 2013 when I received the devastating news of the death of one of my best friends ever. Paul McCann, who I had know for over 30 years died aged just 46 at the wheel of his Royal Mail van in Newquay Cornwall, where he had found a new life and happiness with his partner Glynis.

Lifes too short.

We all say it, but we carry on regardless. Whenever we lose someone close we say we should enjoy life while we can and do what we want to do.
So, following Paul's tragic death I decided to carry out the first thing on my bucket list. Vietnam.  So this is for you Paul mate. Deb & myself be thinking of you on our travels.

Feel free to keep watching.

I have started this blog for my own benefit really. I still read my last major trip blog., (linked above) to remind me of the great times I had in 2006. This blog is also for my daughter Vicki who has deleted her Facebook account because she said she was wasting too much time on it like we all do.
But feel free to come along for the ride on our "dream journey". Leave us a comment if you like.
I will be trying to upload loads of photos from this crazy country. Maybe it will get you thinking about your own dream journey. See ya soon xx
