After another evening laughing at the sights in Hanoi we set off for the 4 hour drive to Halong Bay by Mini-bus. The weather though is very mist and overcast. We boarded our boat that was our hotel for the night and had our first genuine Vietnamese meal. I wont go into too much detail but I should lose some weight by the time I get home if this is all we can get.
We then set sail for a river village, Deb went out on a Kayak, then we did a cave tour. Nearly killed me all the climbing.
After another meal we had a great night forming a good bond with all the youngsters on the boat. All young kids, two from France, a pair of scuba diving instructors from the Maldives as well as two funny Danes, 3 Russians, a Hungarian, a Swiss national and Italian and a nice couple from the UK. There is one young 17 year old girl from Winnipeg, Canada who is travelling all of South East Asia before moving on to New Zealand and later Oz.
We drank till midnight and Deb had a few dances. When they shut the music down some of the lads had a midnight swim.
This morning after a better breakfast we sail around the bay a bit, had a cooking lesson where Deb made a spring roll before a nightmare 6 hour return journey on the bus in the mad rush hour traffic.
Now we have two more nights in Hanoi before getting the night sleeper train up to Sapa on the Chinese border to see some local tribes.
Just spoke to Vicki on Facetime at her home in Barnstaple now its off for some grub
