Sapa Trek.

Saturday 8th March 2013

We were met at 9 am by our guide Linh and, armed with a big bamboo stick given to me by a Dutch woman, we set off on a monster trek that would take us through mountain paths and villages, viewing vast rice terraces and farm workers. We went over bridges and up and down hills that would have tested a mountain goat.
The scenery it has to be said is stunning.  However !

As with anywhere in the third world where tourists gather the locals will also gather to try to reap the rewards of the "rich" tourists. At first it is cute, then it becomes irritating until finally it is annoying as one after the other young girls and elderly woman push their home made wares in your face. Its no different in Turkey or Egypt. I suppose and so it will only get worse.

Having had a little moan I still love the ruggedness of the place and the beauty of the surroundings are something I will never forget.
Below are some pics from today's walk.
