Because of yesterdays travelling the day became a non event. We had left Da Nang early yesterday and spent 10 hours of it on the train. Arriving late at our hotel a short hop from Nha Trang station.
Da Nang Station
This morning we went out to explore and what we found was a very different Vietnam. The place is quieter, and less in your face . We could be in the South of France. Beautiful golden beaches, windsurfers, sunshine and Russians, thousands of em. We spent a few hours on the beach and swam for the first time in the South China Sea. The water was warm and clear enough to see some floating starfish.
I was wearing an old Albion shirt and of course this was getting many admiring glances and comments. We were even stopped by a couple of American guys from California because they noticed the T-Mobile motif on the shirt. They both said they loved the Albion. (I made that bit up). They told us that one of them had lived in Nam for 7 years. He said he could live on very little here and that his wife had died several years ago and he was seeking a replacement. He'd not found one yet but he was gonna keep playing the field until he found one.

Our hotel, the Binh An is really nice. A smashing couple run the place that is as good as any of the 6 we have stayed in so far.

We had the usual choice of breakfast. Omelette, bread rolls, Coffee, yogurt and water Mellon. Lovely

Well its 8.15 in the evening now and I was hoping to have some more photos to put on here. But I have just been out with Deb armed with camera and shot nothing. The truth is this is not the Vietnam I wanted to see. Its a Russian playground with large luxury hotels such as the Sheraton and expensive designer shops. The Russians walk around glaring menacingly. One giant of a bloke in a cafe asked me about the pizza I was eating thinking I was a Russian and when I answered in English he waved his hand at me like he was swotting a fly. "Prickski". By this time I had changed out of my baggies top or he wouldn't have had the balls to show such disrespect. To keep diplomatic relations in check I decided not to knock him out. As I left the cafe I said " see ya Boris" but the big neanderthal was shoveling large amounts of some strange dish into his gob so I don't think he noticed.
Taking camera out this evening hoping to catch something new I walked 100 yards down the road and was warned by a Vietnamese bloke to wrap the camera strap around my wrist. In his words he said "mafia will grab it". Also in the hotel and one of my guide books it warns about pickpockets in Nha Trang.
Tomorrow we have to find something to see in this grotesque town before we move inland to Dalat for a couple of nights on Saturday morning. Hope it gets better tomorrow. Good niteski xx
